Abstract: This study addresses the lack of literature on circular value networks in the context of sustainable tourism. The authors argue that circular, cross-industrial value networks hold the potential to optimize the utilization of both material and immaterial resources within a tourism region, thereby fostering sustainable development. This is especially relevant at the background of tourism destinations contributing significantly to CO2 emissions and helps address SDGs, such as goals 3 (good health and well-being), 8 (sustainable economic growth), or 12 (sustainable consumption and production). The central research question is: "How does the integration of circular value networks in a tourism destination contribute to sustainable development?" Informed by the systemic design methodology (Battistoni, Nohra & Barbero, 2019), the researchers identify existing and potential cross-industrial value networks in the Regional Nature Park Pfyn-Finges in the canton of Valais, Switzerland. They conduct a thorough analysis of selected value networks, examining potentialities, challenges, and their impact on all three dimensions of sustainability. Finally, they design ideal value networks based on the identified ones. The findings underscore the substantial potential of circular value networks to strengthen cross-industrial networks within a tourism destination, contributing significantly to all three aspects of sustainability and increasing the destination's overall resilience.
