Abriss: The integration of unconventional data sources, such as mobile positioning and user-generated content, into tourism research has been widely discussed, yet their broader implications for sustainable tourism remain underexplored. This study aims to address this research gap by critically examining the challenges and opportunities associated with these data sources in enhancing sustainable tourism management. Utilising document analysis and semi-structured interviews with corporate representatives in Switzerland, this research identifies nine key data sources grouped into mobility, utility consumption, and financial/business data categories. The findings reveal the potential of these data sources to provide granular insights into tourism patterns, while highlighting challenges related to data sharing, quality, and privacy. Theoretical implications suggest a paradigm shift in stakeholder relationships and the validity of unconventional data for capturing tourist behaviour. Managerial implications emphasise the need for collaborative projects, predictive analysis, and data sharing for improved tourism governance.
